Icy Blast in the Mountains

Snow flurries and icy cold winds whipped through the mountains Monday night into Tuesday.

Those fierce winds sent temperatures plummeting which meant a cold day at work for some people. But for delivery man Jason Holbrook, that was no big deal. He wore shorts for his daily route even though he knew it would be cold. "I got up about three in the morning and I had to go into work to load the truck. I knew it was going to be cold because I read the weather report."

The chilly blast comes from a fast-moving storm system. This was the third snow this fall, unusual but not unheard of for the area. Climatologists say it is not a sign of things to come. "The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting in it's extended outlooks, warm weather for this winter and for much of the central and into the eastern U.S. and that would include much of Western North Carolina," says Richard Heim with the Climatic Data Center.
