There are 4,500 federal tax refund checks awaiting delivery in the Carolinas, returned to the IRS because of mailing address errors.
The refunds for North and South Carolina amount to $4.5 million. In North Carolina, the average refund check is $1,057 while in South Carolina, the average refund check is $957.
Taxpayers can check and see if they are due some of the cash by clicking on the "Where's My Refund?" tool at www.irs.gov. You can also get there by clicking on the "MORE INFO" link on the WLOS homepage.
Taxpayers can also access a telephone version of "Where's My Refund?" by calling 1-800-829-1954.
