IN THE NEWS: APPLE TWEAKS iTUNES PRICES

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Some changes are coming to the way Apple does business with its iTunes site. The company is cutting the price of some songs -- while some are going up. Under the new model, some songs will be a low as 69 cents. Other songs will be 99 cents -- what had been the price for all singles -- and still others will be $1.29. One other change for the site. All the tunes Apple will sell on iTunes will be available without copy protection. Apple had been offering a limited selection of songs without Digital Rights Management. But by the end of this quarter Apple says all 10 million songs in its library will be available that way.

IN THE NEWS: OSCAR GETS A MAKEOVER

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Oscar is an icon in Hollywood. But even icons can use a makeover, especially when they have been around for decades. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is revamping its Web site. And the Academy says the site isn't just for movie die-hards. Academy honcho Ric Robertson says the site is "for almost anyone with an interest in movies." Aside from getting information about the annual awards, the site has information about the Academy's film and script archives as well as educational programs and a way to have automated Oscar trivia sent to you each day between now and the day the Oscars are handed out on February 22nd.
